The Battle for Stillness and Peace
Hello Family,
First of all: I recommend this book...
Future Glory by Ed Hindson,
To encourage all of you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and not to give up as the world comes at us harder each day. God’s got us in His hands:
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
13But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
15For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are [d]asleep. 16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Isaiah 41:10-13
10Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
11“Behold, all those who were incensed against you
Shall be ashamed and disgraced;
They shall be as nothing,
And those who strive with you shall perish.
12You shall seek them and not find them—
[e]Those who contended with you.
Those who war against you
Shall be as nothing,
As a nonexistent thing.
13For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand,
Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’
My main encouragement as we keep our eyes fixed on God, Jesus our King, is to be still:
Psalm 46:10
10Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
The enemy comes at us like a roaring lion, but in a distraction sense. Make sure you are not allowing the enemy to highjack your still time and quiet time with Abba. If you see yourself being impatient and feeling overwhelmed…then as a fellow sibling in Christ Jesus, who experiences these things too, know that it is time to put it all to the side, choose to put Abba first, hide, and sit in stillness.
Tell Him you are ready to listen, and have your Bible and a pen/paper handy. Ask Him to tell you His heart, after you get your thoughts off your chest, of course. Or…you could let Him lead. All He wants is for you to sit and be with Him in conversation.
Sit and listen.
Sit and learn what is on His mind for you, others, and all else.
Ask Him your questions,
ask Him why,
ask Him whatever you want…
just remember He is waiting for you.
Fixing our eyes on Jesus isn’t the religious stuff you can do, the works…it is mostly being in His presence and having that coffee chat, that prayer time, that Bible time with Him as He teaches you what He wants you to know from Him and Him alone.
Brother and sister in Christ Jesus,
when was the last time you have forsaken all else and actually sat in silence (the deafening kind) and waited on Him.
When was the last time you stopped your mind and listened…to hear His heart?
If it has been more than 24 hours, I say you are going to struggle soon or already are. The enemy is going to keep you from Him, because He is your refreshment, joy, hope, and true peace. Not that soda, not that sleep (though it helps a tiny bit), not that game, not that run…Just Jesus.
I say these things, because I need to hear it too. I love you all and don’t want anyone to forget we are all in the battle of our lives until the trumpet sounds.
Sing this to Him and remind yourself that you need Him:
